January Favourites (2017)

I have to be honest and say that this December/January holiday period, I probably spent a little more than I should have.

Ok, a lot more than I should have.

However, I bought some amazing things that I am absolutely in love with.  Some things you may recognise from my Instagram, if you follow me there, but they make my heart so happy I’m going to share them with you on here too.

I don’t know about you, but shopping inside a Mr. Price store is the worst for me.  Nothing is ever where it’s supposed to be and I can never find the cute things they use for visual merchandising on the shelves, which is probably why I don’t often shop there.  However, the Mr.Price at Ballito Lifestyle Centre is somewhat tolerable (though I still could not find anything from they were advertising) and I bought the most gorgeous little handbag ever.  Truth be told, I actually fell in love with a black and white striped and gold accented clutch from Colette in December and subtly hinted for it for Christmas, but no one was picking up what I was laying down.  As soon as I saw this sling bag, I knew I had to have it (especially since I knew I did not have the R500+ for the Colette bag).

Being at the beach, I decided to buy a pair of sunglasses since I don’t dare take my prescription sunnies onto the beach with me.  I have always thought that aviators are cool as, but I’ve never been able to find the exact right shape for my face.  Firstly, my head is quite small so most are quite large for me and secondly, my ears are uneven so the bigger the glasses, the more obvious my ear-problem.  These glasses, however, were just the right size to be able to be supported on my higher ear and grip the side of my head sufficiently on the other side.  This must be the weirdest problem you’ve ever read about, but you really can’t make uneven ears up.  Needless to say, I love these glasses and feel like a total cool kid in them.

On my way to the till, I also grabbed a set of earrings, where you put the stud in and then attach the dangly part at the back of your lobe.  I imagine they look better if your earlobes are slightly bigger, because mine just have this huge gap between the earring and my earlobe.  I did, however, get these for R20.00 so...bargain!

Soon after this shopping trip, I discovered the Mr. Price fashion app.  I will never go into a store again – except to collect my shopping order for free.  That’s right.  If you order on the app and have the order sent to your nearest Mr. Price for collection instead of door-to-door delivery (which costs R60), delivery is absolutely free.  I actually only went on the app to try to find a pair of denim shorts because the pair I pretty much live in are super old and very large for me.  The shorts I found were so cute and so comfortable.  They even have an elastic waist (I must be getting old!) with a drawstring.  While they have the colour and appearance of indigo denim, they’re actually not denim and are made of 100% cotton, so no sweaty under butt wrinkles in summer (sincerely hoping that happens to the rest of the population too).  As a heads up, though, they will need to be ironed after washing them.  This may seem like a strange thing to add but in my house, only fancy clothes get ironed.  The rest must just be hung straight on the line.

It just so happened, while I was buying my shorts, that Mr. Price was having a 2-for-1 sale at the same time.  So, you could pick any 2 sale items and the cheapest would be free.  A lot of Mr. Price clothes are a bit young for me so I scrolled for quite a while before I found the sweatshirt I am currently obsessed with.  I don’t do slogan shirts or anything like that, but the makeup reference was all I needed to immediately add it to my shopping cart.  I had to take a large, but it’s probably just as well I did because it’s one of those weird length crop top jumper things, so now it hits me at around my belly button – though I do have a very long torso.  The length did disappoint me a little but once I paired it with some high waisted tights, I quickly forgot about that and moved on with my life.  It was also R50 (and free with my purchase) so I’m not even complaining.

Like I said before, I battled to find stuff I liked in the sale section.  I added and removed several bralets from my basket because I just don’t know about those yet.  Watch this space.  Anyway, after much indecision, I eventually added a pair of white skinny fit pants with a black leaf print.  No idea why I picked those but they actually fit me really well, except for the legs being a smidge too long.  I’d probably wear these pants to work when I have meetings (which isn’t very often at all) or maybe just for a fancier date night, if that ever happens.

Before Christmas, I had told my mom how obsessed I was with these rose gold trainers (which I already own in white snakeskin) from Edgars, so she had tried to buy them for me for Christmas but shops were bitches just before so she kind of gave me an IOU for them.  We happened to find them in Ballito while we were there, so she bought them for me AND she bought me the prettiest pair of ballerina pumps I have ever owned.  How gorgeous are they with the elastic?  I feel so Anna Markova in them.  I also got a pair of Pro-Action rubber flip flops because the flip flops I had brought had given me such a blister from just walking with them.

On Instagram, I had seen some bloggers posting about the rose gold diaries they had gotten from Typo.  I was unquestionably compelled by my subconscious to purchase one immediately.  I decided to buy the journal though, not the diary, because I know that I pretty much only use diaries until like mid-February and then forget about them.  The journal, I’m using to collect my thoughts and ideas for blog posts.  I even made cute little dividers for different sections of my ideas with scrapbooking paper.

While I was in Typo, I noticed on their letter wall (whatever it’s called: it’s all the wooden letter decals) that they have a hamsa.  If you know me quite well, you will know that I am pretty much obsessed with Middle Eastern history and culture, which is why I never review books because I’m always reading about history and other things I know people don’t like.  Culturally, a hamsa is a talisman used to deflect the gaze of the evil eye.  I don’t believe in the evil eye exactly, but I think hamsas are absolutely beautiful.  So when I saw the hamsa, I bought it.  Did I really have money for it?  Nope.  Did I care?  Also nope.  Now it just sits next to my bed so I see it all the time and it makes me happy.  I mean, if you’re not buying things that make you happy, why are you even buying them???

Lastly, I finally bought myself a NYX Lip Lingerie.  Clicks at Cresta only had two shades (as in, a single tube of two different colours) and the one tube was mangled so I bought “Embellishment” which, luckily, was the shade I would have purchased regardless of how wide my selection (ok, maybe one of the shades I would have bought any way).  Nobody in my house really likes it, but I actually love it.  It’s the most stunning lavender purple kind of nude that I feel suits my skin tone very well.  I will definitely be doing a makeup tutorial on here with it, so be sure to check back for that!

I’d just like to say thank you to everyone who reads my little blog posts.  You have no idea just how much it makes me smile to see that people are interested in my opinion.  I’m so impressed that last week I got a few views from Turkey and Hong Kong even!  To all my family and friends who read my nonsense every week without fail, I can’t say how much I appreciate it.

Wishing you all the love and light in the universe, until next time ♡♡♡
